Lana Del Rey Stars in David Lynch-Inspired Blue Velvet H&M Commercial (Video)

Publish date: 2024-07-24

Lana Del Rey stars and sings in H&M’s cold and creepy fall 2012 fashion film that’s pretty much a direct rip-off of — excuse me — homage to David Lynch‘s classic thriller Blue Velvet.

Which begs the question, “Why?”

STORY: Lana Del Rey Goes Nude on Cover of British GQ’s ‘Men of the Year’ Issue

Fash Track was a confused a few weeks ago when Del Rey was chosen as the only woman to grace the cover of one of British GQ’s five Men of the Year issues. Was Keira Knightley, Rachel Weisz and every other talented British actress and singer busy?

But clearly we are wrong about her qualifications, and Del Rey — or her managers and agents — must be doing something right because now she’s the face of H&M’s new fall campaign and appears in an H&M film, singing that classic tune “Blue Velvet.”

The purposely unsettling fashion film is shot by infamous Swedish director Johan Renck, who directed the erotic thriller Downloading Nancy, several Breaking Bad episodes and one episode of The Walking Dead, as well as other designers‘ fashion videos and music videos.

This film is reportedly a fully-plotted movie, and it will be available to view in full length at H&M’s site starting on Wednesday (only two days to go!). In the meantime, here’s a peek backstage on H&M’s YouTube Channel.

And below is an abbreviated version of  her H&M video that has a decidedly Lynchian feel to it, with stone-faced beauties wearing early ’60s makeup and beehives. It even features a creepy little person wandering around.

Certainly hope they cleared the rights with Lynch for this.
