This summer, it allowed 1,157 participants to connect with peers across the country and around the globe, learning about each other’s communities, cultures, and daily lives through discussions, individual assignments, group activities, and virtual homestays Designed to connect hundreds of young people across the U.S. with peers in Iraq, Algeria, Yemen, and other countries in the Middle East and North Africa Region, The Experiment Digital prepares participants to be more civically engaged and lead change. Building on our flagship program, The Experiment Digital was launched in 2016 offering free virtual international exchanges for students who are unable to travel. This invaluable experience allowed World Learning to quickly scale up The Experiment Digital in 2020 and use the program as a model to move three U.S. Department of State-funded youth exchanges online as well.
